“Artificial intelligence is growing up fast, as are robots whose facial expressions can elicit empathy and make your mirror neurons quiver.”
Artificial Intelligence refer to the simulation of human intelligence in machine that are programmed to think like humans and mimic their actions. The term may also be applied to any machine that exhibits traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem solving.
This is not the only definition of artificial intelligence. It is changing ever. However, this can be compartmentalized in following section that a machine is
- Thinking humanly and acting humanly
- Thinking rationally and acting rationally
It works in following manner by adopting the means of
- Visual perception
- Speech recognition
- Decision making
- Translation between language
- Digital strategies
- Decision Making
The history of the Ist artificial intelligence equipped auto pilot dates back to 1914. It was the take off and landing that was being only done by human Pilot. The rest of the time the flight were taken over by Auto pilot.
Now the AI has leaped future by moving to self driven cars and public transport.
Artificial intelligence is also known as machine learning. By the process of machine learning , uber rider and uber eats, the company is able to assess the time to be taken in reading all the distance, computation of fare and travel time, the number of people likely to travel and the number of vehicles required for a particular route and so on.
Another example is that of categorization of Gmail into primary, social and promotional. As soon as mail is sent to you, the Gmail by use of artificial intelligence i.e., by study of your behavior the nature of work you do and relevant factors, divides the mail into three distinct categories.
There are several areas where AI and MI are big used by various social networking sites financial institutions and online shopping platforms.
Few of them are listed as under;
- Plagiarism checker
- Robo reader
- Mobile Cheque Deposit
- Fraud prevention
- Credit decision
- Online shopping
- Fraud protection
- Mobile use
- Voice to text
The use of AI and MI is growing at such a faster speed that it is becoming a new infrastructure in the nature of industrial revolution.
All these are examples of study of personnel behaviour including getting into your freedom, privacy and free development of personality.
The machine learning provided help in understanding the choices, but such learnings restrict the human brain to the objects displayed by machine only. As a result free development of personality is likely to hinder.
There is urgent need to the forming of rules with regard to protection of personel data that the machines are using to study personnel behaviour.
It is not a threat if it is operated under safe guidance and safe hands, but the history is witness to incidents that such industries usually fall into the negative hands leading to great losses to human being. Nuclear arms are one of such examples to quote.
That there is a need to frame
- Legal framework
- Ethical framework
Consent is the major factor involving passing of personnel information, but in the current scenario of huge data.AI and ML including robots, it has become challenging. The current scenario requires the forming of rules and regulations at the international level. And such laws need to be in the direction of
- Respect for privacy
- Freedom of expression
- Information communication and opinion
- Economic and technological development
- Free enterprise
- Free competition
- Protection of human rights
- Free development of personalities
Such law need to allow the use of AI in criminal justice system in order to
- Expedite investigation
- Prevent crimes from going unpunished
- Collection and processing of data from suspected criminals
There is a need for check and transparency of AI and ML decision maker as to how they collect data and use them. Unless the collection of data is checked, it may fall on immature hands leading to serious dangers owing to this another industrial revolution.
In the Indian Scenario, efforts are being made to protect the privacy of personal data in the form of protection by operation of following laws :
Information Technology Act 2000
Information Technology (Reasonable Practice And Sensitive Personal Information And Procedure) Rules 2011
For data prevention/protection in India, there is a draft bill in Indian parliament.
The initiative on the part of government in personal data protection is praiseworthy, but the technology is developing at such a fast speed that regulations to protect the use of data are needed on a monthly review basis.
